PESFan: New season

Have your say
pesfansm

It’s that time of year again, and with planning starting as early as December 2008  we’ve finally reached the end of the road and the newest incarnation of PESFan has hit the web. With lessons learnt from the previous version, as well as many sleepless nights for our developers, several key changes have been made in design and site architecture.

One of the biggest changes for 2009 is the introduction and cross promotion of the social networking aspects of PESFan. Flickr, Facebook and Twitter have all been fully integreated into the design, resulting in increased traffic on our pages of all three sites.

Another new update is our official Konami support section, which aims to provide a resource for PESFan users to solve key game issues, technical or otherwise.

sshot-1

Launched on August 14th, we we’re able to streamline the development process through careful planning and improved usage of Visio, along with tried-and-tested GANTT charts.

Timed to coincide with the new PES2010 content from gamescom, PESFan has seen a record numbers of visitors on the site, something we’re also expecting to increase as the game gears up for its release this October.

Konami at gamescom 2009

gamescom

New for August 2009, gamescom is the latest in a long line of European trade fairs that specialises in the video games industry.

Being held in Cologne, Germany from the 19th to 23rd August, gamescom is ran by the ‘Bundesverband Interaktive Unterhaltungssoftware’ (German Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software) an organisation representing thirteen of the major video games companies including Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft.

Konami, creators of the PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) series of games, were also in attendance. They were there to show off the latest code of PES 2010, the next installment of the game being scheduled for a 23rd October release.

They told of how feedback from the community, which the users of PESFan form a large part, had been heard and their suggestions directly incorporated into the game, including manual keeper, 360-degree control and more.

PESFan was also at the forefront with regards generating interest, and our new relationship with Konami as the official PES site helped us to secure some exclusive material that has been linked to by websites around the globe.

The Making of the Main Event

Have your say

We recently organised a sixty-four player ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2009′ tournament at Old Trafford on 1st August. Here’s a brief “Making Of” for your enjoyment.

The fun began a few days prior to the 1st while our intrepid team were experiencing the sights and sounds of the Manchester Umbro International Cup, an occasion we also ran an event at. Unfortunately due to bad weather, the Cup was called off for the first time in thirteen years, and despite being a great day on the Wednesday, was a bit of a mud bath for the rest of the week.

Umbro International

Of course, the actual organisation began weeks prior to this date, but if I listed everything that was done then this post would be far, far too long.

Anyway, not to be put off by the downpour, our crew used this new found time to prepare for the Main Event in the best possible way, hours and hours of manual labour. Thirty-two Xbox 360 consoles and thirty-two television screens had to be brought into the Trafford Suite room of the Theatre of Dreams, along with poles, posters, computer equipment and many other necessary items.

Making Of 3

Making Of 4

The next morning, chairs and tables had to be arranged, consoles needed setting up, it all required checking and checking twice to really ensure everything and anything we had any power over ran as smoothly as possible on the day. From 11 in the morning ’til 7 at night, our team spent their Friday around masses of wires and empty boxes, and surprisingly did it with a minimal amount of fuss.

Making Of 5

Saturday, the day of the Event, and it’s back to Old trafford nice and early for one final check and to make sure everything was working splendidly in time for the arrival of the first players at 9am. From then on, the team worked throughout the day providing continual support to the sixty-four players taking part in the tournament, and only got a break from their duty at 5:30, the end of the day. After everything was packed away, that is.

Even though the amount of effort that went into organising the event was incredibly tiring, it’s fair to say the work was well receieved. The various thanks from players who participated (some even going as far to say it was the best gaming event they’d seen) were more than welcome, and it all resulted in one of the most successful PES events ever ran.
